Tjarko Busink Oh man...the other reviews are so spot on. Big band goes metal indeed. Very good.

Christopher Moklebust Not Dark Yet is the penultimate evolution of the big band. It's heavy, brutal, and unforgiving. The brass section is insanely loud and foreboding - the glissando's of the winds will spin your mind like a carousel on crack. This is far beyond pump up music - this is music set about to destroy the world! Favorite track: Build and Destroy.

Dillon Ethier Heavy metal big band music. While this is technically jazz or fusion, it's so aggressive and heavy that it's honestly closer to metal. Fine by me! Favorite track: Creature Rebellion.

Can This Even Be Called Music? This lineup makes for a very fully sounding band, heavily layered in harmonies and rhythms, as well as timbres, Favorite track: Interstellar Radiation Field.

about

"This is the work of an intelligent and capable conductor, leading his army through a flurry of aggressive leftfield maneuvers." Ari Sadowitz, Huffington Post.

“It’s a concentrated, potent dose of thundering jazz-metal power, more orchestral than big-band, thrilling no matter how you categorize it.” Phil Freeman, Burning Ambulance.

“…[a] seriously aggressive large ensemble… Music that speaks loudly and carries a big stick, too.” Dave Sumner, Wondering Sound.

“…[a] muscular, bracingly intricate new disc…” Time Out New York.

“Don’t let the eighteen-member size of this jazz band scare you. This isn’t Grandpa’s big band, nor your Dad’s. Nor necessarily anybody else who’s into big band jazz. The Nathan Parker Smith Large Ensemble, perhaps the world’s only modern creative heavy metal horn band, is for the rest of us.” S. Victory Aaron, Something Else Reviews.

“…[a] band that just about blows down the house… This is blockbuster, even bruising, music with little respite on the program; such vigorous music might scare some folks away, [I] can’t wait to hear this ensemble live.” Richard B. Kamins, Step Tempest.
